The brief teleconference on the operations of the Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negativity in provinces and cities in the first 6 months of 2024

In the first 6 months of 2024, the work aspects of the Steering Committees on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negativity (the Steering Committee) of provinces and cities have clearly changed; in which, attention has been paid to directing and strengthening the work of inspection, supervision, direction, and handling of Party organizations and Party members when there are signs of violations of the responsibility to set an example, what Party members are not allowed to do, and relating to cases and matters that are monitored and directed by the Provincial and City Steering Committees. The Provincial and City Steering Committees have directly inspected and supervised many topics, fields and areas prone to corruption and negativity; promoted the supervisory role of the People's Council and the social supervision and criticism of the Fatherland Front at all levels. Notably, the Provincial and City Steering Committees have directed the discovery and strict handling of many corruption and negative cases, especially complex, lengthy, and difficult cases; at the same time, proactively directed the detection, prosecution, investigation, and resolutely handled a number of serious and complicated cases and new cases related to violations that took place in previous years and also newly arising violations. The Provincial and City Steering Committees have directed the review and put 74 cases, 33 complex corruption and negative cases, with public opinion of concern occurring in the area under monitoring and direction; 456 new cases/1,265 defendants were prosecuted for corruption; the number of officials and Party members prosecuted for negative behavior is 823 defendants. The results of detecting and handling corruption and negativity in localities contribute to effectively overcoming the situation of slow change at the grassroots level in Party building, preventing and combating negativity and corruption. In addition, the recovery of lost and misappropriated assets in cases and the ones monitored and directed by the Provincial and City Steering Committees has seen many positive changes.

At the conference, Comrade Dang Van Dung, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, thoroughly grasped Regulation No. 132-QD/TW, dated October 27, 2023 of the Politburo on power control, prevention and control of corruption, negativity in investigation, prosecution, trial and judgment enforcement activities.

Delegates at central bridge points and provinces and cities focused on discussing the results achieved, the directions and tasks for the remaining months of 2024. In particular, valuable experiences and ways of doing things of localities or units were mentioned as well as the difficulties, problems, suggestions and recommendations in performing tasks.

Speaking to direct the conference, comrade Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Dinh Trac requested the Provincial and City Steering Committees to continue to direct and organize the effective implementation of the Party's guidelines, the policies and laws of the State on preventing and combating corruption and negativity associated with implementing policies on building and rectifying the Party. To focus on leading and directing the timely implementation of the Conclusions of the General Secretary and Head of the Central Steering Committee at sessions and meetings of the Steering Committee and the Standing members of the Steering Committee. Localities innovate and improve the quality of propaganda and education on preventing and combating corruption and negativity, pay special attention to integrity education, build and practice a culture of integrity and non-corruption, negativity among cadres, Party members, civil servants, public employees and the People. The Provincial and City Steering Committees continue to direct functional branches to strengthen inspection, supervision, inspection and auditing, focus on areas that corruption and negativity are likely to arise, the deep expertise, closed activities, outstanding and pressing issues, and public opinion of interest in the area.
