Nghia Trai Medicinal Tree Planting and Processing Trade Village

Nghia Trai village in Tan Quang commune, Van Lam district is a long-standing trade village of medicine. In Nghia Trai, medicine and pharmacy are combined with each other including activities of curing and collecting, harvesting, purchasing, planting, processing and exchanging medicine.

Currently, Nghia Trai trade village attracts about 900 labourers participating in planting and processing medicine and supplies more than 300 tonnes of all types of medicine to the market with a turnover of over VND 3 billion. The income per labourer is about VND 400,000 – 500,000 per month. About 1/3 of medicinal materials come from medicinal plants grown in the local areas, the remaining 2/3 is purchased from other areas inside and outside the province. Medicinal materials in Nghia Trai are processed and sold by households or by the family tree because the medicine is mainly transmitted from generation to generation. The medicine processing technology is mostly manual and transmitted from the previous generations. Currently, treatment by traditional medicine is preferred; hence, the Nghia Trai trade village is potential to develop further.
