Ne Chau Pagoda

Ne Chau Pagoda, also called Thuy Ung Tu, is situated in Ne Chau village, Hong Nam commune, Tien Lu district. In front of the pagoda's main gate, there is Pho Hien street where Ne Chau market was previously located and was the final part of Pho Hien – a prosperous commercial port centre.

The pagoda was built at the end of the 10th century and was attached to the legend of Madame Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thanh – King Le Hoan's wife. Le Hoan married her when he garrisoned his troops in her native land to fight against the Tong invaders. She helped him and his troops in logistics. After the Tong enemy was defeated, she asked the King to let her stay in her native land for taking care of her parents and become a nun in the village's pagoda. King Le Hoan ordered a mandarin to come to Ngoc Thanh's village to rebuild the pagoda. When she died, he built a temple in front of the pagoda for worshipping her.

In the past ten centuries, Ne Chau Pagoda has been restored for many times but its 17th century-styled architecture has remained intact until now.

Tam The and Tuyet Son statues, dating back to the 18th century, are relics featuring Ne Chau Pagoda's outstanding sculpturing art. The statues are carved with well-proportioned and vivid features.
