Hong Nam Dried Longan Trade Village

Hung Yen is famous for longan. The annual output is about 25.000 tons of fresh longan fruits. Currently, it is used to eat, to be canned or processed into dried longan. Dried longan profession exists in many parts of the province; however it mainly concentrates in Hong Nam commune of Hung Yen city. There are nearly 180 households processing dried longan in Hong Nam. Harvest time only lasts from 35 to 50 days so this is the busiest time of the village. At this time, Hong Nam attracts about 1.200 workers, mostly from villages. The output each year is about 200 tons, the annual turnover is over 12 billion and the average income per worker is VND 300-400000 per month. It is largely consumed in China, Hong Kong through the border markets. Hong Nam commune not only processes longan in Hung Yen but also purchases and processes it in Moc Chau, Son La and in the south. Moreover, processing lychee in Luc Ngan - Bac Giang is highly profitable, which creates some billionaires in Hong Nam. Currently the production process (Both old and new technology) is using manual methods.
