To develop and upgrade urban infrastructure
From 2021 to present, the province has carried out a lot of programs and projects to invest in developing technical infrastructure and social infrastructure, contributing to changing the urban appearance, improving the quality of life of people and moving towards sustainable urban development. In particular, indicators on housing, traffic, water supply and urban greenery have made significant progress. However, some indicators such as: Wastewater collection and treatment, urban landscape architecture and traffic density are still limited, especially in small and newly recognized urban areas.
Developing urban traffic infrastructure in Van Lam district
In the field of housing in urban areas, it has reached a fairly high level of 32.8m2 of floor space/person, well meeting the minimum housing demand of 8m2/person. In addition, a series of new urban areas with large scale have been invested, typically Dream City, Dai An, Ecopark Van Giang... with a system of spacious and modern residential housing. These projects not only help improve living conditions but also contribute to the formation of modern and civilized urban spaces.
Regarding water supply infrastructure, the rate of urban residents using clean water has reached nearly 90%. The average water consumption standard is about 100 liters/person/day and night. In addition, the quality of water and clean water supply services are increasingly improved, continuing to be invested to ensure a stable and safe water supply.
Traffic infrastructure has also made remarkable progress. The rate of land area for traffic in urban areas reached 23%, significantly improving the connectivity between regions. The lighting rate on main streets reached 75%, while that in alleys reached over 60%, contributing to improving traffic safety and the quality of life of urban residents.
Comrade Doan Hong Quan, Head of Planning and Architecture Division, Department of Construction said: The development and upgrading of urban infrastructure in the province in the past time has closely followed the general planning orientation, focusing on the fields of traffic, water supply, drainage, housing and public space. However, to meet the requirements of sustainable development, urban infrastructure in the province needs to continue to be invested in a more focused and synchronous manner, especially in small and new urban areas, towards improving the quality of life of the people.
In 2024, the total public investment capital of Hung Yen city is nearly 693 billion VND, allocated to 86 projects, aiming to renovate and upgrade urban infrastructure. Notably, the city's key traffic projects include: Phu Cuong - Hung Cuong inter-commune road; upgrading the sidewalk of Nguyen Van Linh street; building embankment and walking path on the west side of Dien Bien river... In addition, the city also focuses on investing in works serving people's lives and developing culture and society in urban areas, typically the City Sports Center with an investment of more than 19 billion VND; upgrading the public lighting system of more than 3 billion VND; renovating parks of more than 7 billion VND; investing in upgrading schools of nearly 20 billion VND... These projects not only help to complete urban infrastructure but also create a premise for synchronous and modern development for the city in the future.
Many urban areas in the province such as Hung Yen city and Van Giang district have invested in building smart urban monitoring and management centers; new urban areas in the province have gradually completed smart surveillance systems, security cameras, etc. These projects aim to improve urban management capacity, optimize resource use, and improve the quality of public services for the people. In addition, the province has been receiving and implementing investment in a number of large-scale ecological urban areas, which are built modernly and synchronously, creating a premise for a smart urban model in the future.
The development of public spaces and urban greenery is also focused on. Large-scale public green areas are mainly concentrated in the centers of cities and towns. In addition, in large towns and urban areas such as Ecopark, many large-scale parks and playgrounds have been formed, meeting the needs of landscape and expanding green space.
Despite many positive results, the process of developing and upgrading urban infrastructure in the province still has some challenges to be solved. Specifically, the urban wastewater collection and treatment system is still lacking and weak, especially in small urban areas. Urban landscape architecture in some areas is not really synchronous, while traffic density in some urban areas is still low, affecting connectivity and circulation. In newly recognized type-V urban areas, the public green tree system is still limited, not meeting the needs of people for common living space.
In the coming time, urban areas in the province need to continue to boost investment in developing urban infrastructure in a sustainable, modern direction, in accordance with the general planning. The expansion of the traffic system, upgrading of technical infrastructure, improvement of water supply quality, wastewater treatment and development of public spaces will be top priorities. At the same time, the application of technology in urban management and operation also needs to be promoted more strongly, aiming at the goal of building sustainable and modern urban development in particular and the province in general.
