The Vietnam-Cuba friendship meeting to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Girón Victory
On the morning of April 19, at the Headquarters of the Provincial People's Council – the Provincial People's Committee, Hung Yen province, in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, organized a friendship meeting to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Girón victory (April 19, 1961 - April 19, 2026). The meeting aimed to recall the great significance of the Girón victory for the Cuban revolution and to strengthen the special traditional friendship between the people of Vietnam and Cuba. The meeting saw the participation of Mr. Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam, and his spouse; Mr. Le Quang Hoa, Member of the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of provincial departments and agencies, along with numerous Cuban friends.

The meeting took place in a joyful atmosphere, filled with solidarity. Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Quang Hoa recalled the historical event 65 years ago when the Cuban army and people achieved the great Girón victory; affirming that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship is bound by noble revolutionary ideals and the struggle for independence and freedom, creating empathy, understanding, and sharing between the two nations, becoming a special, loyal, pure, and rare friendship in international relations. He emphasized that Hung Yen province has a special mark in the Vietnam-Cuba friendship. A prime example is Duc Hop commune, which established a branch of the Friendship and Solidarity Association with the Cuban People in 1969, becoming one of the earliest shining examples in the international solidarity movement of the Vietnamese people. He expressed confidence that, with their unwavering spirit and determination, the Cuban people will continue to overcome all difficulties and challenges, and continue to achieve many successes in the cause of protecting and building socialist Cuba. Hung Yen province hopes to continue receiving the attention and support of the Ambassador in connecting and promoting practical exchanges and cooperation between Hung Yen province and localities in Cuba in such fields as: health, education and training, sports, sugar cane production, cultural exchange…

On behalf of the leaders and people of Cuba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba Rogelio Polanco Fuentes respectfully thanked the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, including the people of Hung Yen province, for their dedicated political, material, and spiritual assistance and support over the years. The Ambassador emphasized that preserving the special historical bond between the two nations is a sacred responsibility of generations of Cubans and Vietnamese, and the new achievements and cooperation results, contribute to ensuring the lasting existence of the special friendship and fraternal solidarity between Cuba and Vietnam.
