According to the Ministry of Finance's report, in the first month of the year, the socio-economic situation continued to maintain a positive trend, creating a favorable foundation for achieving the 2026 development goals. In January, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by nearly 2.6% compared to the same period last year, basically in line with the inflation control target set by the National Assembly’s Resolution. Major economic balances were ensured, and energy and food security were maintained.

State budget revenue achieved positive results. Total revenue in January was estimated at VND 370.7 trillion, equivalent to 14.7% of the annual budget estimate and seeing an increase of 20.4% compared to the same period in 2025. Of which, the revenue from three production and business sectors reached 18.8% of the budget estimate, seeing an increase of 8.6%; the revenue from import and export activities reached 9.2% of the budget estimate, seeing an increase of 94% compared to the same period.

Regarding public investment, as of January 31, 2026, ministries, sectors, and localities have allocated over VND 959,000 billion in detail, reaching 96.4% of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister. Although lower than the rate in the same period last year, it was VND 12,700 billion higher in absolute value compared to January 2025.

National target programs continued to be implemented synchronously. The ministries and agencies in charge of the program focused on perfecting mechanisms and guidelines, and strongly decentralizing power to localities, creating conditions to accelerate implementation progress from the beginning of the year.

The socio-cultural sector received comprehensive attention. Social welfare work, including providing Tet (Lunar New Year) support for policy beneficiaries, meritorious people, poor households, and those with special difficulties, was carried out promptly and in accordance with regulations. Healthcare and disease prevention were strengthened. Education and training continued to implement reform tasks according to the resolutions of the Central Committee and the Government. National defense, security, and social order and safety were maintained. Foreign affairs and international integration continued to be a highlight, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena.

In his concluding remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries, agencies, and localities to focus on thoroughly grasping and comprehensively and decisively implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Party effectively; maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, promoting growth, and ensuring the major balances of the economy. He emphasized the task of renewing traditional growth drivers, strongly boosting new growth drivers, striving for the double-digit growth in 2026; focusing on resolving outstanding and long-standing projects; removing obstacles to production and business; and effectively mobilizing and utilizing resources for development.

In addition, the government will continue to improve the regulations on administrative organization and the efficient operation of the two-tier local government; prioritize cultural and social development, ensure social security, and improve the lives of the people, especially ensuring that people can enjoy the Lunar New Year; fully and promptly implement policies for war veterans, policy beneficiaries, people in areas affected by natural disasters, remote areas, border regions, and islands; and ensure that workers receive their salaries and Tet bonuses as prescribed.

The Prime Minister requested the consolidation and strengthening of national defense and security, maintaining social order and safety; ensuring absolute safety for important political events, especially the elections of delegates of the National Assembly and the People's Council at all levels for the 2026-2031 term; at the same time promoting foreign relations, international integration, and enhancing the effectiveness of information and communication work to create social consensus.
