Hung Yen: Promoting crop structure conversion, increasing agricultural production value
The crop structure conversion in localities in the province has promoted the advantages of climate and soil, suitable for the production level and intensive cultivation of farmers in recent times; thereby bringing higher economic efficiency than before, contributing to increasing the production value per hectare of cultivation.
The promotion of crop structure conversion has contributed to increasing the production value per hectare of cultivation in the province from more than 173 million VND/hectare in 2017 to 245 million VND/hectare in 2024. Many conversion models have brought about high economic value to farmers, and are also typical examples for farmers in other localities to learn from. In particular, the model of converting to growing flowers and ornamental plants brings an average income of 800 million VND to 1 billion VND/hectare/year, especially the model of converting to producing potted flowers and ornamental plants in the communes of Xuan Quan and Phung Cong (Van Giang) brings an income of 1.5 - 3 billion VND/hectare. The model of converting from growing corn, beans... to producing fruit trees in Khoai Chau, Kim Dong districts... brings an average income of 1 - 1.5 billion VND/hectare/year...

Comrade Nguyen Quoc Chuong, Vice Chairman of Van Giang District People's Committee said: In order to achieve the goal of developing commodity agriculture with high efficiency, the district has planned agricultural production areas, thereby forming a number of concentrated raw material areas such as: Flower and ornamental plant production areas with high economic value in Xuan Quan commune, Phung Cong commune with a total area of over 350 hectares... By the end of 2024, the whole district has converted more than 2,100 hectares of low-efficiency agricultural land to growing fruit trees, flowers, ornamental plants, and construction trees with high economic value. The effectiveness of crop restructuring has increased the income value of a hectare of cultivation in the district in 2024 to 416 million VND.
Assessing the effectiveness of crop restructuring, Mr. Nguyen Van Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Crop restructuring has contributed to changing the form of production organization and production thinking of farmers, including shifting from small-scale, household production to large-scale concentrated production, forming cooperative groups and cooperatives linked to the industry value chain, contributing to improving production efficiency. The transformation models have gradually shifted towards organization, safe and sustainable production. The areas with crop restructuring have received attention and investment in the direction of improving productivity, quality and product value.
In the coming time, to make crop restructuring effective, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will orient a number of solutions for localities to implement. In particular, localities proactively develop plans to convert crop structure, prioritizing the first conversion for low-efficiency rice areas and annual crop areas (corn, beans, etc.) outside the Red River and Luoc River banks, in which the conversion focus is associated with the development of key agricultural products of the province. Perennial fruit trees, developed in a specialized direction, closely linking production with preservation, processing industry and consumption market. To focus on grafting and improving with early-ripening longan varieties, old longan varieties (ancient, sugar...) or longan varieties that meet export standards. To expand the plantation area of Hung Yen Trung lychee, early-ripening hybrid lychee Hung Yen, grafting and improving Hung Yen Trung lychee varieties... on hybrid lychee rootstocks. The flower groups, ornamental plants, and seedling production need to be converted in high fields, with soil quality from fair to good; 100% of the fruit tree, flower and ornamental plant production area of the concentrated production area is from 5 hectares or more and follows a chain ensuring safety standards, has a brand and a large part of the fruit tree area is produced and certified to meet VietGAP standards...
