Hung Yen enters orange harvest season

At this time, gardeners and cooperatives in the province are focusing on harvesting oranges. This year, due to the impact of the weather, orange output has decreased compared to last year, but the consumption is favorable, with the selling price of Vinh oranges at the beginning of the season at 35 - 50 thousand VND/kg, and Duong Canh oranges at 60 - 100 thousand VND/kg; the harvest time is later.

Members of the Van Giang Safe Vegetable and Fruit Production Cooperative, Lien Nghia Commune (Van Giang) harvest oranges

Kim Dong District has over 765 hectares of citrus fruit trees, of which the orange area is over 421 hectares, concentrated in the communes of Dong Thanh, Pham Ngu Lao, Hung An, Duc Hop... The whole district has 120 hectares of citrus fruit trees certified by VietGAP, 12 citrus fruit cooperatives have been established to link production, product consumption, and increase the value of cultivation. Many cooperatives and gardeners in the district have orange and grapefruit products recognized as OCOP products of the province. This year, due to the impact of storm No. 3 and storm circulation, orange output decreased by about 40% compared to last year.

Dong Thanh Commune (Kim Dong) has about 300 hectares converted to growing oranges and citrus trees; of which, the orange area is about 200 hectares. The orange varieties grown in the commune are Vinh oranges and Duong Canh oranges. To improve production efficiency, the district and commune encourage and support gardeners to produce oranges according to VietGAP standards. To date, the whole commune has over 30 hectares of oranges produced according to VietGAP standards. Mr. Duong Van Tuoi, Thanh Sam village said: My family has 1.5 hectares of oranges and Dien grapefruit. This year, the orange yield is estimated at 3 tons. At this time, my family has started harvesting Vinh oranges, the selling price at the garden is 35 - 40 thousand VND/kg. To promote the Dong Thanh orange brand and protect consumers' health, I follow the VietGAP production process, so the oranges have good quality and beautiful appearance.

These days, the Van Giang Safe Vegetable and Fruit Production Cooperative, Lien Nghia commune (Van Giang) harvests an average of 1 ton of oranges/day for sale to traders. Ms. Ly Thi Ha, Director of the Cooperative, said: The Cooperative has about 30 hectares of oranges. This year, the cooperative's orange output is estimated to reach 200 tons of fruit, down about 40% compared to last year due to the impact of storms and floods. For many years, the cooperative has applied the VietGAP orange production process, and the cooperative's orange products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products of the province. To expand the consumption market and improve the efficiency of orange production, the cooperative actively advertises its products on social networking platforms such as Zalo, Tiktok, Facebook, etc. Therefore, the cooperative's orange products are consumed immediately as soon as they are harvested at a stable price of 50,000 VND/kg.

As a loyal customer of the Van Giang Safe Vegetable and Fruit Production Cooperative, Ms. Trinh Anh Nguyet in Hanoi said: I learned about the cooperative's orange products through the orange market in Ecopark Urban Area (Van Giang) 3 years ago. I was impressed by the cooperative's sweet, fragrant and juicy oranges. Since then, every time the orange harvest season comes, I place an order and the cooperative delivers them to my home. In addition to buying for use, I also introduce the product to my colleagues in the company to share clean and safe products with everyone.

Currently, the whole province has over 1.7 thousand hectares of oranges, mainly grown in the districts of Van Giang, Kim Dong, Khoai Chau, Phu Cu and Hung Yen city. The varieties of Hung Yen oranges, V2 oranges, Duong Canh oranges... are grown in concentrated areas in localities, accounting for over 90% of the orange area in the whole province; the remaining area is the one of some orange varieties: CS1, Bo Ha oranges... This year, the total orange output of the whole province is estimated at 25 - 28 thousand tons of fruit, mainly consumed in and outside the province. In recent years, due to the active conversion and removal of low-yield orange varieties to replace them with high-yield, high-quality orange varieties, applying VietGAP and organic production processes, the quality has been increasingly improved. Assessing the quality of Hung Yen oranges, Mr. Dang Viet Tu, a trader in Mong Cai city (Quang Ninh) said: For many years, I have often ordered oranges from some orange gardens in Hung Yen province to bring to Quang Ninh for consumption. Oranges grown in Hung Yen have thin skin, yellow flesh, are juicy, sweet and very fragrant, so they are favored by customers. Although oranges purchased in Hung Yen have a higher selling price than the ones grown in some northern mountainous provinces, many customers still seek to buy and order them as gifts.

In order to enhance the brand of Hung Yen oranges, in recent times, the provincial departments, branches and localities have proactively implemented solutions to improve productivity, product quality and advertise products to consumers. Gardeners also proactively apply VietGAP and organic farming methods, complying with the "4 rights" principle in using pesticides (right medicine, right time, right concentration, right dosage and right way) in orange production to protect consumers' health.
