Biosafety breeding and high-tech applications not only help farmers control diseases, reduce risks and production costs, but also contribute to forming linked chains and improving the quality of livestock products.

Benefits of safe breeding

Currently, in the province there are many farms that choose biosafety and closed breeding methods, which have proven effective. Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, the owner of a livestock farm in Le Xa commune (Tien Lu), said: Currently, the farm is raising about 3 thousand pigs according to a closed process, with an automatic feeding and drinking system. People working in the farm must ensure disinfection and sterilization procedures before coming into contact with livestock. With the barn temperature control equipment system, the temperature is always maintained at a stable level, limiting the main sources of disease from the environment, so the risk rate is only about 5%. Profits increase by 15 - 20%.

Closed pig farming model in Dinh Du commune (Van Lam)

Minh Hoa Company Limited, Nguyen Hoa commune (Phu Cu) is applying a closed, biosafety pig farming model. According to Ms. Vu Thi Hoa, Director of the company, with large-scale industrial breeding, the company is proactive in source of breeds and carries out vaccinations according to each stage of development of the pig herd. In addition, the company keeps a breeding diary; strictly cleans the barns, sprays disinfectant chemicals, and complies with regulations on disease-free farming areas. Thanks to that, the company's pig herd develops healthily, maintaining the total herd and the quality of livestock products.

According to assessments of livestock farms in the province, biosafety breeding applying mechanization into production contributes to reducing labor, food costs, and ensuring the breeding environment. Therefore, although the initial investment cost is quite large, currently, small livestock households in the province are shifting to closed-scale, biosafety breeding. To date, the whole province has over 550 livestock farms applying high technology into production. The application of biosafety breeding contributes to creating clean, safe products that are highly appreciated by the market.

Participation in the value chain to improve product quality

Dong Tao chicken products in Dong Tao commune (Khoai Chau) are considered to be of higher quality than many similar products raised in other localities. However, the products given as gifts are mainly commercial chickens. The products are not uniform and difficult to transport over long distance, making it difficult for customers in remote areas to reach them. This is the reason why Dong Tao Chicken Breeding and Trading Cooperative was established with the goal of linking local chicken raising households. The cooperative not only supports members with breeds and breeding techniques, but also supports the consumption and processing of Dong Tao chicken products. Mr. Le Quang Thang, Director of Dong Tao Chicken Breeding and Trading Cooperative, said: The establishment of the cooperative contributes to bringing the Dong Tao chicken product brand to many customers with a variety of products such as: salted chicken, Dong Tao chicken stir-fried sausage, Dong Tao chicken silk rolls, lemongrass and kumquat-soaked chicken feet... With locally available ingredients and safe production processes, the products as: Dong Tao chicken, Dong Tao chicken silk rolls and Dong Tao chicken stir-fried sausage are recognized as OCOP products of the province.

Biosafety chicken breeding in Hong Tien commune (Khoai Chau)

On November 12, 2020, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2631/QD-UBND on continuing to implement the Project to build and encourage the development of production and consumption chain models for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, ensuring food safety in the province, for the period of 2021 - 2025 (Chain project). Total implementation cost is over 73.2 billion VND. Every year, the Chain Project Management Board actively coordinates with localities to review and select project participants; organize training on VietGAHP production process in breeding; support for electrical system and waste treatment for participants. In 2023, the whole province has organized consulting, guidance, and certification to maintain and expand VietGAP and VietGAHP for 73 organizations and individuals with a total area of ​​nearly 746 hectares, nearly 83 thousand heads of cattle, poultry, over 1.4 thousand bee colonies... Nearly 90 organizations and individuals have been selected to participate in the Chain Project. In livestock chains, the process of raising, slaughtering, and processing products is carried out in a closed cycle, ensuring environmental hygiene and food safety.

Comrade Le Trung Can, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed: The formation of chains linking breeding and product consumption has gradually overcome the situation of dependence on the market, improved product value. ... In addition, biosafety breeding also helps control diseases and minimize environmental pollution. In the coming time, the provincial agriculture and rural development sector advises the Provincial People's Committee to continue to have preferential mechanisms and policies on land and credit capital, creating favorable conditions for livestock households to build closed farms. Along with that, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directs specialized units to promote the building of chain links, link livestock and poultry slaughterhouses with large-scale livestock households, create a synchronous process from production to consumption of products to build trademarks and brands of livestock products. Currently, the department is coordinating with localities to review the current situation of livestock production to develop a project to raise livestock away from residential areas associated with centralized slaughter to ensure quality management, food safety, and epidemic safety, reduce environmental pollution, and contribute to the sustainable development of the province's livestock industry.
