Offering incenses to commemorate the 748th anniversary of the day that General Pham Ngu Lao went to war to fight the enemy and defend the country

On February 1 (ie January 11 in lunar calenda), at the historical and cultural vestige of Phu Ung temple, Phu Ung commune (An Thi), an incense-offering ceremony was held to commemorate the 748th anniversary of the day that General Pham Ngu Lao went to war to fight the enemy and defend the country and open the Phu Ung temple festival.

The incense-offering ceremony witnessed the attendance of Mr. Nguyen Huu Nghia, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Tran Quoc Van, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. In the attendance were comrades in the Provincial Standing Committee, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and a large number of people and tourists from all over the world.

Delegates attend the incense-offering ceremony

At the incense-offering ceremony, delegates and a large number of people and tourists from all over the world reviewed the history of the life and career of General Pham Ngu Lao.

Pham Ngu Lao was an outstanding general of the Tran Dynasty. He was born and raised in Phu Ung village, Duong Hao district, Thuong Hong (now Phu Ung commune, An Thi district). From a commoner, he raised the great will to participate in the fight against the enemy and was discovered and recommended by Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan, becoming a famous general praised by history books, having great merit in the wars against the invaders.

After his death, he was conferred by the King as the "Superior Blessed God" and a temple was built by the villagers of Phu Ung to worship him right on his family's old house. In 1988, Phu Ung temple worshiping General Pham Ngu Lao was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic.

Every year, the local people hold a traditional festival to commemorate the merits of the talented general who contributed with the Tran court to defeat the Mongol invaders.

The incense-offering ceremony in memory of General Pham Ngu Lao was held solemnly, ensuring security and order.

In addition to the ceremony, a lot of cultural activities, sports, folk games such as tug of war, wrestling, Xam singing, Tru singing... are held during the festival days.

The Phu Ung Temple Festival takes place from January 11 to 13.
