Natural Resources

Hung Yen is a hallowed area with outstanding people. It is diversified and rich in natural resources such as Land, Water, Mineral resources and river system.

1. Land Resource.

Natural resources of Hung Yen province are mainly agricultural land, especially land for growing rice and short-term industrial crops, which is an important factor for socio-economic development of the province. Based on the origin of soil formation and separation by natural rivers and traffic, the province's annual cropland is divided into 3 types of land:
- Alluvial soil outside the dike is deposited annually by the Red and Luoc river systems. Main characteristics are fresh brown soil, not acidic, mixed sand and light flesh. The area is 4,471 ha, accounting for 7.83% of the annual cropland of the province and distributed in the districts of: Van Giang, Khoai Chau, Kim Dong, Tien Lu, Phu Cu and Hung Yen city.
- Alluvial soil that is not accreted is located in the dike of the Red and Luoc rivers. The main feature is fresh brown soil, medium to light fleshy texture. The area is 37,084 ha, accounting for 64.95% of the province's annual cropland and distributed in the districts of Van Giang, Van Lam, Khoai Chau, Yen My, Tien Lu and Hung Yen city.
- Alluvial soil that is not accreted is located in the dike of the Thai Binh river system. The main characteristics are light brown, yellow-gray color, acidic soil, medium to heavy fleshy texture. The area is 15,519 ha, accounting for 27.22% of the province's annual cropland and distributed in the districts of Van Lam, My Hao, An Thi and Phu Cu.

2. Water Resource.

In addition to land resource, Hung Yen province also has water resource including surface water and underground water.

Surface water source is the direct supply for production and daily life through the natural river system and Bac - Hung - Hai irrigational system.

Hung Yen is also rich in underground water resource. According to the survey results, there are big underground water mines, especially in the area along the National Highway No. 5 from Nhu Quynh to Quan Goi, which not only meet the demand of industrial and urban development, as well as daily consumption in the province but also provide a big volume of water for surrounding areas. Lavie Mineral Water Company in Nhu Quynh town (Van Lam District) is currently operating and exploiting this water resource to produce fresh mineral water. The waterworks of Vietnam Water and Environment Company is under construction.

3. Mineral Resource.

Hung Yen is a province with limited types of minerals, the main minerals are river sand, clay for brick and tile production, mineral water, natural hot water and brown coal in the Red River Delta coal basin.
- Through basic investigation, it is forecasted that river sand source in Hung Yen has a large reserve of about 73,216,960 m3, 14,474,250 m3 of sand
has been licensed to exploit and 11,867,370m3 of sand has been actually exploited and used. Because administrative procedures are still cumbersome and complicated, it takes about 2 to 3 years to issue a mineral mining license, and once licensed, it costs a lot, so it is very difficult to compete with types of sand sold in the market.
- Clay for production of bricks and tiles is widely distributed with a reserve of about 121,079,000 m3, 848,228 m3
has been licensed to exploit and 20,400m3 has been actually exploited and used. Most of the clay is located on rice growing areas, due to the low economic value of clay and cumbersome licensing procedures, businesses are not interested in investing in exploitation and use.
- Natural mineral water in Nhu Quynh town, Van Lam district has not been comprehensively investigated and evaluated for the area and currently licensed for LaVie Company to exploit but there are still many organizations and individuals exploiting and using, which causes loss of natural resources.
- Hot water in Tong Tran commune, Phu Cu district is being investigated and evaluated but not properly exploited and used.
- Brown coal in the Red River Delta coal basin is being explored and evaluated by the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Group, which has a reserve of over 30 billion tons, but it is very difficult to exploit.

4. Human Civilization Resource.

Hung Yen province was established in 1831, and was the home of Vietnamese ancient people (from Hung Kings’era). There are a lot of famous historical - cultural relics, of which there are a total of 1802 relics, including 03 special national-ranked relics, 172 national-ranked relics (the province ranks the 3rd in the country in term of number of relics), 257 provincial-ranked relics such as: Pho Hien relic site, Da Hoa - Da Trach relic, Bai Say, the memorial area for physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong, Phu Ung temple...
