The national teleconference on ensuring traffic order and safety in 2021 and the directions and tasks in 2022

On the morning of January 6, Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Pham Binh Minh chaired a nationwide teleconference on ensuring traffic order and safety in 2021 and the directions and tasks in 2022. In the attendance were members of the National Traffic Safety Committee, leaders of ministries and central agencies. At the provincial destination, the conference drew the attendance of Mr. Nguyen Hung Nam, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee; leaders of agencies as members of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, leaders of the People's Committees of districts, town and city and relevant agencies and units.

At the conference

According to the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee, in 2021 (from December 15, 2020 to December 14, 2021), there are 11,495 traffic accidents, 5,799 people killed, 8,018 people injured; as compared with 12 months of 2020, the number of traffic accidents has decreased by 3,496 cases (23.32%), the number of deaths declined by 1,068 people (15.55%), the number of injured people reduced by 3,143 people (28.16%). The traffic police force has handled 2,884,885 cases of violations of road, rail and inland waterway traffic order and safety; a fine of 2,808 billion 625 million VND, deprivation of 248,667 driver's licenses, licenses and professional certificates, seizured 460,085 vehicles of all kinds; as compared to 2020, the handling of the case decreased by 796,613 cases (21.64%), the fine reduced by 478 billion 576 million VND (14.56%). In 2022, the National Traffic Safety Committee sets the following goals: raising awareness of self-discipline to obey the law and building a safe traffic culture; annually reducing traffic accidents by 5-10% in terms of the number of cases, the number of deaths and the number of injured people; overcoming traffic jams on main traffic axes, key traffic hubs, in big cities and preventing traffic jams when controlling the epidemic; preventing infection and disease outbreaks in transportation activities.

At the conference, representatives of ministries, branches and localities discussed and proposed initiatives and solutions to successfully perform the goals in ensuring traffic order and safety in 2022 and the following years.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Pham Binh Minh suggested the Traffic Safety Committees of the provinces and cities to well perform the following key tasks: Strengthen inspection and urge the implementation of the Conclusion No. 45-KL/TW of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee on strengthening the Party's leadership in traffic safety. To ensure the progress and quality of key transport infrastructure investment projects; review and definitively handle the black spots, potential points of traffic accidents; consolidate the functions and tasks of the National Traffic Safety Committee and the local Traffic Safety Boards; build and perfect institutions and policies on ensuring traffic order and safety; improve the capacity of rescue and overcome the consequences after the accident; restructure transport, increase the market share of rail and inland waterway transport... to gradually reduce dependence on roads; build a traffic safety culture for people's groups in association with propagating, disseminating and educating the law on traffic order and safety. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that ministries, branches and localities need to strictly perform the peak of traffic safety and order during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival in 2022 so that people can enjoy the Spring and welcome Tet holiday safely and conveniently.

Addressing the direction in Hung Yen province, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee Nguyen Hung Nam requested agencies, units and localities to strictly conduct the contents of the direction of the Standing Deputy Prime Minister at the conference. Provincial police strengthens inspection, examination, and strictly punishes cases of alcohol violations during the Lunar New Year. The Provincial Traffic Safety Board studies and develops a project to install a monitoring camera system, initially at black spots and complicated points on traffic safety as a basis for managing traffic order and safety in the whole province; promotes the application of technology in traffic management and monitoring activities. Localities need to improve traffic infrastructure further; strengthen the operation of public transport services; do well the propaganda and dissemination of traffic safety knowledge to people and businesses./.
