The cooperative producing and trading high-quality agricultural products in Quang Chau commune (Hung Yen city) currently has 32.5 ha of Vinh oranges and sugar oranges. This year, the cooperative's orange output is estimated to reach at 400 tons, down 20% from the previous year. At this time, the cooperative members start harvesting oranges. Mr. Nguyen Van Biet, director of the cooperative said: This year, due to the influence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the consumption of agricultural products has faced many difficulties. To remove difficulties for the orange consumption, the cooperative has contacted the focal points of orange purchasing in the localities, reported to local leaders to create favorable conditions for people and vehicles to visit and order oranges and ensure the safety of the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control. Along with that, the cooperative guides members to take care of oranges in accordance with the process, technique, and ensure the quality and food safety.

Phu Cu district has nearly 400 ha of oranges of all kinds, which is concentrated in communes: Tam Da, Nguyen Hoa... In 2021, orange output in the district is estimated to attain at about 1.2 thousand tons. At this time, a number of gardeners have embarked on the harvest of Vinh oranges.

Ngu Phuc Agricultural Cooperative, Tam Da commune (Phu Cu) has 21.6 ha of orange trees. This year, orange output of the cooperative is estimated to reach at 300 tons, down 150 tons as compared to 2020. Mr. Tran Van Binh, director of Ngu Phuc agricultural cooperative said: This year the weather is not favorable for the growth and development of citrus trees in general and orange trees in particular. Specifically, there is a lot of rain at the time of flowering and fruiting, so the fruit rate is low; at the end of the season, it rains a lot, affecting the roots of the tree, leading to fruit drop. The harvested orange output of the cooperative is currently sold at an average price of 17.5 thousand VND/kg. In order to ensure favorable consumption of oranges in the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic in some localities in the province, the cooperative has contacted and built the previous year's sales points, applied the sales method through social networking sites such as: Facebook, zalo, twitter, tiktok... For online orders, the cooperative harvests, packs according to customer's request, transports to the purchase address as required, guarantees the regulations in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic… Along with that, the cooperative has planted many different types of oranges such as: Hung Yen oranges, sugar oranges, and Bo Ha oranges to spread the crop, avoid harvesting at the same time to improve the price.

Farmer in Pham Ngu Lao commune (Kim Dong) harvests oranges

According to experts, citrus is one of the key fruit trees of the province with an area of over 4.2 thousand ha, of which oranges cover an area of 2.1 thousand ha. Oranges are grown mainly in districts of Van Giang, Kim Dong, Khoai Chau, Phu Cu and Hung Yen city. In which, the plantation rate of orange varieties such as: Hung Yen oranges, V2 oranges, sugar oranges accounts for over 90% of the area, mainly grown in areas of intensive cultivation and conversion, the rest are such varieties as: CS1 , Bo Ha oranges... This year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, orange consumption is supposed to face many difficulties, and transportation costs will increase. Moreover, orange products in Hung Yen have not been put into post-harvest processing, only fresh oranges are consumed, causing the prices pushed down at the time of main harvest. To support the consumption of citrus products in general and Hung Yen oranges in particular, recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a teleconference to promote trade in citrus products and OCOP products in the province in 2021. Through the conference, delegates at the destinations were provided with information about the area and production of oranges in Hung Yen, the areas meeting VietGAP standards. Representatives of a number of e-commerce platform and businesses expressed their desire to cooperate and consume orange products of some units in the province...

In order to improve the value of Hung Yen orange products, the agricultural sector recommends that localities need to propagate and mobilize people to replace low-economical and diseased orange areas with high-yielding and high- economical varieties. To apply the right technical measures to care for oranges, use organic fertilizers to prolong the life of the tree, maintain the yield, and improve the quality of Hung Yen's oranges. Along with that, growers need to expand VietGAP orange production area to diversify the consumption markets inside and outside the province.
