HOANG NGHIA GIAO (1623 - 1662)

Hoang Nghia Giao is from Hoang Van village, Kim Dong district (now in Hong Tien commune, Khoai Chau district). His ancestor is Hoang Nghia Kieu, his grandfather is Hoang Nghia Than, his father is Hoang Nghia Phi, who were the Dukes of the Le dynasty.

He is brave, good at military work and well-known. At the beginning of 1645, he followed Trinh Toan to go in the south and fought the Nguyen Lord. At that time, the Cochinchinese court was strong and sent troops to attack many places on the northern bank of the Gianh River. In Thach Ha battle, he rescued Dao Quang Nhieu and got the victory. When Trinh Toan betrayed, he did not follow. When Trinh Toan was captured, he was promoted to Admiral.

In June 1656, he, Le Thi Hien and Dang The Cong divided the troops into three ways to go into the south. At that time, Cochinchinese troops were occupying the southern part of the Lam River. Le Thi Hien went along the main road, he went on the left, Dang The Cong went on the right, the Nguyen army lost and had to run.

In September, 1660, he defeated Chieu Vu Nguyen Huu Dat in My Du commune and An Cong village (Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province) and earned many trophies. In November of that year, he and Le Thi Hien broke the Cochinchinese army in Phu Luu Thuong commune, chased them directly to Ha Trung and took back all 7 districts in the south of the Lam River. In the following year, he was promoted to Deputy General.

He died in 1662 at the age of 40 and was promoted as the God of Happiness by the King.

His son is Hoang Nghia Hy, his grandchild is Hoang Nghia Ba, who also followed the military career, many times set up the feat and was awarded as the Dukes. Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, mother of Uncle Ho also belongs to the family of Hoang Nghia Giao.
