Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong works in Hung Yen

On October 16, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development paid a working visit to the province on the epidemic prevention and control and the re-development of biosafety breeding, especially for pig raising, ensuring food supply in the last months of 2019 and early 2020.

The delegation was received by and worked with: Mr. Do Tien Sy, Member of the Party Central Committee, Provincial Party Secretary, Head of the Provincial Delegation of the National Assembly; Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of relevant departments and branches.

The delegation has studied at some farms, which raise sows and commercial pigs in the province. They are the models under the process of biosafety, without diseases, last time there is no disease in general and African swine fever in particular and the production is maintained well.

At farms, the delegation directly discussed with farmers, local authorities and the provincial functional departments on the prevention and control of diseases on livestock herds in general and African swine fever in particular and the implementation of safe and sustainable raising methods.

The whole province now has nearly 20,000 breeding households with large and small scales; in which the most developed is still raising pigs with a total of over 400 thousand pigs. In 2019, the output of cattle and poultry meat in the whole province is estimated to reach at 132 thousand tons, down more than 8% as compared to 2018. Currently, the province has well controlled the situation of diseases and about to declare the end of the African swine fever. From now till the Lunar New Year, the husbandry activities basically meet the food demand in the province and partly serve the production of goods.

Addressing at the working session, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong proposed that the large farms with safe, closed and disease-free processes continue to promote and enhance the production of clean animals to supply to farmers, develop commercial pig raising to contribute to stabilizing the food market and prices. On the other hand, the provincial specialized sector should closely coordinate with safe breeding models in the province, develop an appropriate, effective and safe breeding process to disseminate and replicate in the whole province. He suggested that all levels and sectors of the province should continue to actively participate in, accompany and support for livestock activities in general and pig breeding in particular in the province to maintain a stable, sustainable and suitable in line with actual needs, sticking to the market.

Speaking at the working session, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phong affirmed the close monitoring of the province in the leadership, direction and orientation of safe breeding, proactive and active in the disease prevention and control, especially African swine fever. In the coming time, the province will continue to synchronously carry out such measures as: Supporting farmers to destroy the pigs infected with African swine fever; assigning professional staff to grassroots level to accompany farmers and localities in the work of re-herd and diseases prevention; continuing to maintain epidemic prevention and control; strongly developing biosafety breeding in the province, ensuring stable food supply with good quality to the market.
