The teleconference promotes the agricultural production in the context of the Covid-19 disease

On March 12, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a teleconference to promote the agricultural production in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic. At the Hung Yen destination, the conference drew the attendance of Mr. Bui The Cu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; leaders of some departments and branches of the province.

In the first 2 months of the year, the whole country has cultivated about 3.01 million ha of winter-spring rice, down about 110 thousand ha as compared to 2019; vegetables are thriving; fruit trees grow well, many crops are being harvested. The African swine fever epidemic continues to be controlled, over 97% of communes have no longer been infected for 30 days, many localities have announced the end of the epidemic, people and businesses are investing to re-grow and restore production. In the first 2 months of the year, despite being strongly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, the industry's export turnover still reaches 5.34 billion USD.

To propose the solutions to boost agricultural production in the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requires the whole sector to focus on synchronous deployment of tasks and solutions to boost agricultural, forestry and fishery production in order to ensure domestic food security, increase exports and achieve the highest goals assigned by the Government. To flexibly use rice area, to ensure food security, improve the efficiency of land use, increase income for farmers; continue to guide the conversion of inefficient rice land to other crops with higher market and income, with a focus on growing legumes, fruit trees and aquaculture. It is expected that total meat output in 2020 will reach about 5.8 million tons, up 16.3% as compared to 2019. To implement agricultural production restructuring in the direction of adapting to climate change, promoting regional advantages, on the basis of increasing the proportion of aquaculture and fruit trees. For pig production: To continue the disease control measures, especially African swine fever; coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance to control the selling price of products of large livestock enterprises; strictly control and minimize speculation to increase the price of market hog and breeding pigs currently on the market; speed up the pace and scale to restore the herd to stabilize the market and the price of domestic pork.

Delegates attending the meeting focused on the solutions to stabilize and develop agricultural production in the context of disease outbreaks. In which, the Central Government and the Ministry of Health's guiding documents on the prevention and control of Covid-19 disease are well implemented, while maintaining stable production, preparing and getting ready for all conditions to develop production after the end of the disease.
