Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phong: Focusing on expanding the area of Hung Yen fragrant sticky rice
In the morning of September 18, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of Hung Yen provincial People's Committee checked and directed the production at the Provincial Agricultural Seeds Center and An Thi district. In this crop, the Hung Yen Agricultural Seeds Center has maintained 20 ha of Hung Yen sticky rice and the sticky rice No. 415 to provide seeds for farmers in the province. The center has also tested over 1.5 ha of some new rice varieties under the project program.
In 2019, the center has supplied 150 tons of rice seeds to farmers and strives to provide about 200 tons of rice seeds by 2020.
The Chairman of the provincial People's Committee requested that the center should continue to select and review for testing and offer high quality, pest-resistant and high-yielding rice varieties to farmers for mass cultivation.
In particular, to attach importance to providing Hung Yen fragrant sticky rice which is recognized as a national variety by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This rice variety has such advantages as: good pest resistance, short growing time, cultivating in both crops and suitable for the fields; high yield, delicious quality of rice, with the economic value from 1.5 to 1.7 times higher than that of the ordinary one.
The Chairman of the provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate closely with branches and localities to focus on expanding the area of Hung Yen fragrant sticky rice in the coming seasons to reach 70 to 80% of the area; contribute to branding of OCOP products, accelerate the agricultural sector restructuring.
Inspecting the production in An Thi district, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee praised An Thi district in this crop to cultivate over 3,700 ha of sticky rice of all kinds, accounting for nearly 50% of the total area. In which, many communes have planted 60% of Hung Yen fragrant sticky rice.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee visited Cam Ninh commune, a typical commune of An Thi district in well conducting the new rural construction movement in association with preserving the village landscape and protecting the environment.
